Not a complimation - the background (before the radial blur) really is the background - tis a funky art gallery structure in Melbourne.

Don' t worry this is not "just another gimmicky manipulation".
You've used your skills in PS to make a great photo look perfect. It don't seems that you just played around. You made what was necessary to give a photo the look you wanted it to have. Its not the manipulation which stands in the foreground, its the photo.

Awesome shot .. it is very dynamic .. and that's some unusual ( but cool ) perspective.

One of the most creative shots i saw in a long while .. u really should try more manupilation ( and more crazy prespectives too :) ) .. a fav for sure.

Keep it up

Very nice job on the manipulation.

It really gives a sense of disorientation.

Great perspective on the model when you composed the shot also.

Fantastic. It looks like a movie poster (with Kate Beckinsale in the starring role!). The model is so beautiful too.

This manipulation is fantastic. The color correction, the radial blur execution. It looks as if she's having trouble resisting the motion around her, and parts of her are beginning to tear and succumb. (ok, so I like things I can get some sort of story out of.)

But beyond the awesomeness of the manipulation is the photo itself. If all you did was a bit of color correction it still would have been a very powerful and dynamic image. However, the fact that all you worked with is what was originally in the image makes this a truly impressive piece, at least to another photographer and digital manipulator.

I think I will suggest this for a DD or that photography journal thing going on now.

Cheers mate,

I was actually very hesistant to engage in manipulation beyond just colour correcting beacuase, as you mention the shot was already a good one. I'm still not absolutely 100% sold on the final image - in an image sense I quite like it but with the radial blur added I worry a touch that it can easily be dismissed as "just another gimmicky manipulation" even though I do personally believe it works on and adds to the dynamic already established with the original photo. *shrugs*

Well, I like the color scheme and everything else, so I'd like to see the image without the blur and such.

I don't think anyone will dismiss this image as one of the general lot because it is a well composed and executed image before it is special effects, not the other way around.

oh, and unless you're doing it for a client who is paying you explicitly for the work, don't care what others think about it. If you like it, make it. Chances are that element added to your work will make others like it anyway. People can tell when something in art is forced or isn't really that of the creator, and they can tell when it is. That is a huge part of the acceptance and consumption of art.
